The Philadelphia Eagles had a few days to make a decision on what to do with Jalen Hurts after the team discovered the quarterback had a superficial blood clot in his calf.
The Eagles are set to start Tanner McKee against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday as they sort out their quarterback situation. Hurts was ruled out indefinitely while he finds the proper treatment for a concerning health issue. His health and safety are a priority.
Per Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport of ESPN, the Eagles placed Hurts on injured reserve after consulting with multiple doctors and experts, meaning he will be out for at least the next four games. Philadelphia is unclear when Hurts will return and will wait for Hurts' medical team to determine when he can play.

The good news is that the Eagles believe the blood clot is treatable. The bad news is that it could take several weeks (at best) for Hurts to heal if he has to take blood thinners.
"In most cases, blood clots are treated with anticoagulants, otherwise known as blood thinners," Schefter and Rapoport wrote. "A player cannot play while on blood thinners. In general, the minimum time frame for a moderate dose of anticoagulants is six weeks, sources said.
"There is a possibility, if the clot is minor enough, that doctors begin with anti-inflammatories only, while continuing to monitor. If the clot were to move, as the team said happened in Hurts' case, blood thinners are often the answer. If the clot were to worsen, blood thinners for roughly three months would be the next course of action."
In other words, he could return in several weeks, or Hurts could be lost for the remainder of the season.
Hurts' injury comes at a time when the Eagles are on a three-game losing streak before playing the 2-2 Panthers.
