Bubba Wallace is driving a car covered in COVID-19 vaccine ads at Talladega on Sunday, Oct. 25. This unusual move has fans fearing a digital explosion if he wins the race. NASCAR personality Dale Tanhardt called the situation a potential “NASCAR Facebook Apocalypse” if Wallace crosses the finish line first in the No. 23 Toyota.
The paint scheme features Kroger Health and Novavax branding on a mostly white body with blue numbers. It was revealed on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and quickly became a major topic of conversation online. Fans are used to seeing grocery stores or insurance companies on cars, but a vaccine promotion is rare, according to Heavy.com. The design places the health message right in the center of one of the biggest races on the calendar.
The Online Reaction Explodes
NASCAR reporter Joseph Srigley shared the first look at the car design on Wednesday. The post showed large Novavax logos across the side panels of the vehicle. This visual cue triggered a wave of comments from fans who are watching the series closely. The reaction was so intense that the topic even landed on X’s trending page before the race weekend began.
Dale Tanhardt shared Srigley’s post and made a joke about the stakes of the upcoming race. This comment perfectly captured the mix of shock and humor that fans are feeling. The idea of a driver winning on a vaccine-themed car creates a unique pressure point for the event.
History at the Talladega Track
Talladega Superspeedway is a 2.66-mile track in Alabama where Wallace earned his first career Cup Series victory. That win happened in October 2021 during a rain-shortened race. He became the first Black driver to win at NASCAR’s highest level since Wendell Scott in 1963. Five years later, he returns to this same track with a car that draws attention before the engines even start.
The race is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 25. Weather forecasts look perfect for the event with sunshine and a high of 74 degrees. The forecast shows only a 4 percent chance of rain, which means the race should run without delays. Drivers will face the usual dangers of drafting packs where one bad move can crash half the field.
Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson are also racing this weekend with strong records at this track. Elliott has won twice here and ranks high in stage points during the Next Gen era. Larson leads the Chase standings with a five-point lead over his rivals. Every position matters now because there are only three races left in the Chase.
A Unique Moment in the Chase
This weekend marks the third race in a critical stretch for the championship battle. The YellaWood 500 is race number 34 of the 36-race season. Teams are hoping for dry conditions to complete all their scheduled practice sessions. The forecast for Friday and Saturday also looks clear, with highs near 79 and 74 degrees.
William Byron is another driver with a strong history at this track. He has five top-five finishes in 17 starts at Talladega. His team ranks third in pit road speed during the Chase. The combination of good weather and high stakes makes this a pivotal weekend for the drivers fighting for the title.
The vaccine branding adds a layer of complexity to an already intense race. While fans debate the ads, the drivers must focus on avoiding crashes in the pack. If Wallace wins, the reaction online could be unlike anything the sport has seen before. The blend of history, championship pressure, and social media drama makes this Sunday’s race impossible to ignore.
