The administration of United States President Donald Trump has revoked more than 300,000 visas since he began his second term in January 2025, the State Department has said.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott disclosed the figure on Tuesday, saying the administration had accelerated its visa revocation efforts as part of its broader immigration crackdown.
In a statement posted on X, Pigott said the Trump administration “has revoked more than 300,000 visas at a faster pace than any administration in history.”
He added that the government maintained “zero tolerance for foreigners here on visas who break the law, commit fraud, or undermine our national security.”
The latest figure represents a significant increase from the more than 175,000 visa revocations reported by the State Department in an update issued on August 10.
Trump has defended his administration’s immigration policies, arguing that its crackdown and deportation drive are necessary to improve domestic security.
However, rights advocates have criticised the measures, arguing that they undermine due process and free speech protections and create an increasingly unsafe environment for immigrants, particularly ethnic minorities.
Among the cases that have attracted criticism are visa revocations involving foreign nationals who participated in pro-Palestinian protests against Israel’s military operations in Gaza.
The administration has also faced criticism over actions against foreign nationals based on their social media comments concerning the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Beyond visa revocations and deportations, the Trump administration has introduced tighter social media screening measures for immigrants and visa applicants.
Rights advocates have accused the government of using national security concerns to target critics and applying isolated cases of fraud to justify broader scrutiny of immigrant communities, including Somali Americans in Minnesota.
Although Trump campaigned in 2024 on a pledge to curb illegal immigration, his administration has also introduced measures that make legal immigration more difficult, including higher fees for certain work visas.
The latest visa revocation figures underscore the administration’s continued efforts to tighten immigration enforcement, amid an ongoing debate over national security, civil liberties, and the rights of foreign nationals in the United States.
