Security officials sharply criticized what they described as the courts' failure to impose meaningful penalties, arguing that judges were reluctant to issue punishments that could deter offenders.
The IDF, Border Police, and Israel Police have intensified efforts to combat lawbreakers and rising nationalist violence in the West Bank, with an average of seven to 10 illegal outposts evacuated each week in recent weeks, Walla learned. The IDF's Central Command plans to further increase the number of evacuations in the coming weeks as security forces struggle to prevent repeat offenses.
A senior security official described the situation as particularly complex, pointing to repeated evacuations of the illegal Ta'ana outpost and the arrest of 15 individuals there over the past week. According to the official, all 15 were transferred to police custody but subsequently received court-imposed restrictions that failed to prevent some of them from returning to the site.
"The illegal Ta'ana outpost was evacuated several times this week alone. Fifteen people were also arrested there and handed over to the police," the official said.
"What happened when they got to court? The first nine, who were arrested for throwing stones at Border Police officers, were given seven days of house arrest and a 45-day ban from the South Hebron Hills," the official said. "The other six also threw stones at us, but a different judge gave them 72 hours of house arrest, and they returned to the Ta'ana outpost. They encountered the same Border Police officers who had evacuated it."
Security officials criticize court rulings on illegal West Bank outposts
Security officials sharply criticized what they described as the courts' failure to impose meaningful penalties, arguing that judges were reluctant to issue punishments that could deter offenders, keep them away from sensitive areas, and prevent the reestablishment of illegal outposts.
"Outposts are constantly being evacuated. People are constantly being arrested. The question is what happens to them afterward," the senior official said.
The official noted that Central Command recently issued eight restraining or exclusion orders against activists, emphasizing that addressing the violence required action beyond the military.
"This is a systemic issue. It is not just an IDF matter," the official added.
Security official condemns attacks on Palestinian olive harvesters
The senior official also addressed support expressed by rabbis for Israeli civilians harvesting olives in Palestinian-owned groves, arguing that such backing influenced extremist activists involved in attacks and disturbances.
"This support has an impact on these savages, these wild elements, some of whom are Jewish terrorists," the official said.
Discussing the weekend's incidents, the official said all had occurred in Area B of the West Bank, where olive harvesting does not require prior coordination with the IDF.
"All the incidents took place in Area B, in harvesting areas that do not require coordination, which account for 97% of the territory," the official said. "The IDF is deployed at dozens of other locations where coordination is required for harvesting."
The official added that the military had coordinated olive harvesting at 85 locations in recent days, with harvesting taking place at 65 of them under IDF protection.
"Only at four locations was harvesting prevented because of friction," the official said. "In the remaining cases, the Palestinians either did not arrive or there was no fruit."
Three attacks reported in West Bank olive harvesting areas within 24 hours
The senior official also addressed incidents involving consular representatives who were attacked while visiting olive harvesting areas in the West Bank.
"These are Area B locations, olive harvesting areas that do not require coordination, where Jewish rioters go to interfere with Palestinians," the official said.
The official identified incidents near Beit Lid, Khirbet Abu Falah, and Taybeh, saying three such incidents had occurred within the previous 24 hours.
