President Bola Tinubu has said that he will not be available for all the campaign rallies of the All Progressives Congress, citing the huge demands of his office.
Mr Tinubu, who stated this during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on Wednesday, added that he would, however, make time to engage Nigerians directly.
“I will make time to speak directly with Nigerians even as you lead the campaign to states and local government areas, so you will excuse me from going everywhere with you,” the president stated.
Mr Tinubu noted that he would not be distracted from giving his best as president, adding that Nigeria deserved more attention than ever.
“You have warned me not allow the campaign rigour to distract me, I hear you. Nigeria needs more attention than ever before. The responsibility of this office doesn’t recognise our agenda today. The constitution makes room for the parliament, not for the campaign. The job must go on,” he added.
Mr Tinubu also stressed that his administration was committed to building a country friendly to foreign investors.
“We have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait. We want those investors to stay here and invest in the future of our children,” the president explained.
He described the inauguration as a renewed covenant with the Nigerian people, expressing confidence in the ruling party’s ability to secure victory in 2027.
“The APC is ready. We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council; we have gathered to renew a covenant, a covenant with the Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party. We promise we will not let them down,” he added.
The campaign council is chaired by Mr Tinubu, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as first and second vice-chairmen, respectively.
It is composed of directorates responsible for mobilisation, election planning and monitoring, finance, fundraising and regional coordination.
