Losing his job in Tennessee might not be the last penalty Jordan Elliott pays.
The NFL is reviewing what happened at the Tennessee Titans’ practice facility, and Elliott could be punished even while unsigned, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. Tennessee cut Elliott, a defensive tackle, on Oct. 20 in a 41-word statement.
Schefter posted on X on Oct. 22, citing a league spokesman:
“An NFL spokesman said the league is investigating the situation surrounding former Titans DT Jordan Elliott, who was released after he brought a gun into the team’s training facility. If there is a violation that’s found while he’s not on a team, Elliott could serve a suspension as the free agent that he now is.”
The trouble began at practice on Oct. 15, when Elliott clashed with right tackle JC Latham and was ordered off the field.
According to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, Elliott, 28, shed his equipment and went to fetch a weapon from his parked car, potentially to go after Latham. Security cameras recorded the whole sequence.
No confrontation followed. Teammate John Franklin-Myers defused the moment, and the gun never moved from Elliott’s parking space, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported.
Players can’t carry firearms on club or league property. An NFL spokesperson described the matter to Pro Football Talk as “under review.”
Titans head coach Robert Saleh said on Oct. 21 that Elliott “pulled a gun” in the parking area but framed it as a “call for help” rather than a crime.
He then made a pitch to every other club.
“My message to 31 other teams would be if you need a hell of a run-stopping D-tackle that can help you on a playoff run, give me a call, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about him,” Saleh said.
Elliott, who made 29 starts in 31 games for the San Francisco 49ers, followed Saleh to Tennessee on a two-year, $8.5 million deal.
He had 11 tackles across five games before going inactive for the Week 6 victory against the Indianapolis Colts.
Elliott waits on the league’s review as Tennessee prepares for a home game against the 4-2 Cleveland Browns, the AFC North leaders.
