KUCHING: A 16-year-old male student allegedly brought firecrackers and an axe to an international school here and injured a female teacher this morning.
Sarawak acting police commissioner Deputy Commissioner Saifullizan Ishak said in a statement that the incident was reported at 8.03am, when the Kuching district police received information through the MERS 999 emergency line.
Preliminary information indicated that the student had brought firecrackers before allegedly injuring the teacher with an axe, he said.
"The victim reportedly sustained a cut to her hand," he said.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon or dangerous object, and Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957 relating to the possession of explosives.
The student has been arrested and is being held in the psychiatric ward of Sarawak General Hospital here, he said.
"Police are conducting a detailed investigation to establish the actual cause of the incident and gather relevant evidence," he said.
