Overview:
Rocket Lab (RKLB): Neutron rocket development, contract growth, and improving profitability are key factors to monitor.
AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) and Planet Labs (PL): Satellite connectivity and growing demand for Earth observation data offer potential, but execution and funding remain important risks.
Intuitive Machines (LUNR) and Redwire (RDW): Lunar exploration and space infrastructure provide growth opportunities, while mission risks, debt, and cash flow require close attention.
Commercial space investment has hit a new high, but not every space stock has the same shot at success. Space startups raised a record USD 20.8 billion in the third quarter of 2026, nearly triple the USD 7.4 billion of the previous quarter. Strip out Blue Origin’s USD 10 billion financing and the total still reached USD 10.8 billion. Launch and space access companies took in USD 16.4 billion, a sign of strong demand for rockets, satellites and space services.
Rocket Lab Builds its Space Business
Rocket Lab (NASDAQ: RKLB) is known for launch services, spacecraft and defense work. It sends customer payloads into orbit and supplies equipment for space missions. The larger Neutron rocket could open the door to bigger missions, but delays or runaway costs could derail those plans.
Second-quarter 2026 revenue came in at USD 234.07 million, with a backlog of USD 2.36 billion. Demand looks strong, though the company still loses money. Neutron progress, contract growth, cash burn and profit margins are the things to track.
AST SpaceMobile Targets Phone Service from Space
AST SpaceMobile (NASDAQ: ASTS) wants ordinary mobile phones to connect straight to satellites. It works with telecom partners to bring coverage to places where ground networks are weak. The market could be huge, but the company still has to launch more satellites, widen service and keep costs in check.
SpaceX is a serious rival with its own satellite communication plans, and that pressure has weighed on ASTS shares. Satellite launches, carrier deals, coverage and the need for fresh capital are the signs to follow.

Planet Labs Turns Satellite Images into Data
Planet Labs (NYSE: PL) sells Earth imagery and data to businesses, governments and defense agencies. Customers use it to monitor land changes, study weather and assess events around the world. Revenue for fiscal second-quarter 2027 was USD 116.1 million, up 58% from a year earlier, and cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments stood at USD 865 million.
New government and defense contracts strengthen the growth story. Even so, strong sales don’t guarantee profit. Future revenue, contract renewals, cash use and the road to steady earnings all deserve attention.
Intuitive Machines Bets on Lunar Missions
Intuitive Machines (NASDAQ: LUNR) is built around lunar missions, NASA contracts and services for future Moon projects. That gives investors a direct line to rising interest in lunar exploration. However, space missions are technically risky, and one failure or a delayed contract can hit revenue and the share price.
Winning contracts isn’t the same as running a healthy business. Mission results, NASA spending, schedules and cash needs matter most here. LUNR may suit investors who can stomach sharp price swings, and it carries more uncertainty than an established aerospace firm.
Redwire Supplies Space Hardware
Redwire (NYSE: RDW) makes hardware and technology for spacecraft, satellites and other space projects. Because of that, it touches several parts of the space economy instead of relying on one rocket or mission type.
Growing demand for space infrastructure could help, but contract delays, debt and thin margins could limit the upside. Its order backlog, revenue from completed contracts, cash flow and debt levels are worth studying. Winning new work isn’t enough. Redwire has to turn demand into reliable earnings.

What Investors Should Watch Next
Each stock is a different way into the space economy. Rocket Lab covers launches and spacecraft, AST SpaceMobile aims for phone links from orbit, Planet Labs sells satellite data, Intuitive Machines chases lunar missions, and Redwire supplies hardware. The right pick depends on business progress, share price and risk tolerance.
A flood of investment can help the sector grow, but it can also inflate expectations and push prices above fair value. A big backlog or fast revenue growth only counts when a company delivers on its promises and protects its cash. For space stocks, the strongest long-term case rests on real customer demand, sound finances and steady execution, not headlines.
