One person has died and another has been seriously injured following a two-vehicle crash on the M41 near the Cornubia Mall off-ramp in Durban.
KZN VIP emergency medical teams responded to the crash and found two severely damaged vehicles, including a Volkswagen Golf 1 engulfed in flames.
“The intensity of the fire prevented initial attempts to extinguish the blaze,” KZN VIP said in its account of the incident.
The fire department was called to the scene and arrived shortly afterwards. The occupant of the Golf sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the second vehicle was stabilised by KZN VIP paramedics under advanced life support care before being transported to a medical facility for further treatment.
Circumstances of crash remain unclear
The circumstances leading up to the crash have not been confirmed.
The South African Police Service, the Collision Unit and other emergency services attended the scene, while the roadway was obstructed for some time as emergency teams worked.
KZN VIP extended its condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones and wished the injured driver a full recovery.
