Interior designer Wendy Sibiya found a vintage sideboard on Facebook Marketplace for just R1,999. She brought it home, transformed it, and the result had South Africans completely stunned.
Wendy, the founder of Wendy's Home Interiors, an interior design studio with over 31,700 followers on Instagram, shared the reveal on 12 October 2026. The clip showed the antique sideboard, now repurposed as a statement kitchen island, sitting perfectly in her kitchen as though it had always belonged there.
A marketplace find that became a masterpiece
What made the reveal so compelling was not just the finished product but the value behind it. A secondhand piece, picked up for under R2,000, was given new purpose through Wendy's signature Victorian-inspired style. The two-legged design gives the piece a small footprint, making it practical for everyday kitchen use without overwhelming the space.
The video captured the sideboard's rich graining and classic detailing, which complemented the kitchen's aesthetic seamlessly. Wendy's approach, mixing high-end interior sensibility with budget-conscious sourcing, struck a chord with viewers who are increasingly moving away from bare, minimalist spaces in favour of character-filled interiors.
