Sources say the Taliban have warned the family and relatives of General Abdul Raziq, the former Kandahar police chief, not to hold a ceremony marking the eighth anniversary of his killing.
The sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday, October 18, that the Taliban’s intelligence directorate in Kandahar warned General Abdul Raziq’s family and relatives on Saturday against holding a memorial ceremony.
According to the sources, the Taliban have also banned the publication of any content on social media about the eighth anniversary of General Abdul Raziq’s death.
The sources said the Taliban warned that anyone who defied the order would be arrested.
Meanwhile, General Tadeen Khan Achakzai, Abdul Raziq’s brother, said they would hold an online memorial ceremony on Sunday, October 18, at 5 p.m. Kabul time.
Abdul Raziq was shot dead on October 18, 2018, inside the Kandahar provincial governor’s compound by one of the governor’s bodyguards, following a meeting between Afghan security officials and General Scott Miller, the commander of US forces in Afghanistan.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for his killing at the time.
