Residents and businesses in Walvis Bay should brace themselves for water shortages as the town is expected to experience reduced water pressure until 20 October due to ongoing maintenance work and infrastructure upgrades affect water supply across the town.
According to the Municipality of Walvis Bay, these disruptions are linked to rehabilitation work at NamWater’s Mile 7 reservoir, a power outage affecting the Ruby Substation and the installation of a bulk water pipeline along the C14 road. As a result, low water pressure could be experienced across the town during this period. The pipeline installation by CSV Construction Namibia is taking place at a service culvert approximately three kilometres from Dunes Mall towards the airport road. Meanwhile, NamWater also announced temporary water restrictions until Sunday as rehabilitation work continues at the Mile 7 site. The corporation said water supply would be reduced from the normal 850 cubic metres per hour to 700 cubic metres per hour during the maintenance period.
The interruption affected Kuisebmond, Narraville and residents of Farm 37 and Farm 38 on Tuesday and Wednesday, resulting in the temporary closure of schools on Wednesday.
Due to the reduced water pressure, Langstrand, which falls under Walvis Bay, will continue receiving water from Swakopmund. Residents and businesses have been urged to use water sparingly and responsibly while the work is underway. The municipality also appealed to residents to make the necessary arrangements to meet their essential water needs.
