Payton Pritchard's tenure with the Boston Celtics is set to continue for the foreseeable future after he agreed to a two-year $44.2 million contract extension. Pritchard has two years remaining on his four-year, $30 million deal and no player option. As such, the extension will kick in ahead of the 2028-29 season, when he will be turning 31.
The second year of Pritchard's deal has a mutual option, meaning either he or the Celtics organization can pick up the second year. It's worth noting that while Pritchard can opt out of that deal, the Celtics cannot turn it down, per Bobby Marks.
Following the news of Pritchard's extension, Adam Taylor and Mike Weber of the 'Celtics Chronicle' podcast discussed the importance of the veteran guard to Joe Mazzulla's roster, and why Pritchard's level of play ensures that his new deal is fair value for both sides. The duo also discussed whether Pritchard has one more big payday ahead of him, or if this pay bump is as good as it's going to get for the multi-talented guard.
