By Zoila Palma: The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has revoked more than 300,000 visas since the start of his second term in January 2025, the State Department announced on Tuesday, highlighting the continued expansion of the government’s immigration crackdown.
The latest figure represents a significant increase from the more than 175,000 visa revocations reported on August 10, Reuters report.
U.S. State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the administration had revoked visas at a faster rate than any previous administration.
In a statement posted on X, Pigott said the government maintains “zero tolerance” for foreign nationals who violate the law, commit fraud or pose threats to national security. Trump has defended the crackdown as necessary to strengthen domestic security and support his administration’s deportation efforts.
However, civil rights advocates have criticized the policies, arguing that they undermine due process and freedom of speech while creating an increasingly hostile environment for immigrants, particularly ethnic minorities.
