Sidhu Moosewala’s parents are facing a legal complaint over videos showing their two-year-old son making gun-like gestures during a hologram concert in Toronto. The Lawyers for Human Rights International (LFHRI) filed the complaint with the Mansa District Magistrate and District Child Protection Unit. The incident reportedly took place during the singer’s Sign to God World Tour on October 9. The organisation has called for an inquiry and counselling for the child’s parents.
The videos from the concert at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena circulated widely on social media. The child, Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, also known as “Nikka Sidhu,” appeared to imitate his late elder brother’s signature thigh-slapping gesture. He then reportedly made a pistol-like sign with his hand and said, “tha tha tha.” The footage prompted concerns from the human rights organisation about the child’s exposure to violent gestures.

LFHRI general secretary Advocate Navkiran Singh said the organisation wanted the child protected from violence. He called for counselling for parents Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur. The group also requested interim directions to prevent the child from being encouraged to make similar gestures at public or private events. It said legal action under child protection laws could follow if concerns remained unaddressed.
However, the family’s lawyer, Advocate Gurvinder Singh Sandhu, said the family had not received any complaint or report from the relevant authorities. He defended the parents’ right to decide how to raise their child and said the context behind the gestures should also be considered. Sandhu added that the family had faced controversy before, including following the child’s birth. Meanwhile, Mansa District Child Protection Officer Jagtar Singh said he would check whether his office had received the complaint.

The controversy comes as Moosewala’s parents and younger brother are abroad for the hologram tour. The child’s birth in March 2024 had also drawn attention after Charan Kaur gave birth through in-vitro fertilisation. India’s Union Health Ministry then sought a report from the state government regarding the age limit under assisted reproductive technology rules. Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Jawaharke village in Mansa district on May 29, 2022.
