North Korea has test-fired a new high-speed precision-guided torpedo equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology, according to state media, in what Pyongyang hailed as a major breakthrough for its navy.
The underwater test of the new “Zam-2.0” torpedo took place on Thursday, state media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Saturday without releasing images of the weapon.
The Academy of Defence Science, Missile Administration and Torpedo Weapons Research Bureau carried out the test to “confirm successful technical updating of a new-type torpedo weapon system.”
The weapon incorporates AI technology into its target detection and guidance systems, state media claimed.
