Manchester United are in talks with Antonio Conte as they seek to replace Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Conte is in the process of ‘reaching an agreement’ with United.
The 57-year-old is an elite coach who has been out of work since leaving Napoli at the end of last season.
Conte has won 11 major trophies in his managerial career, including five Serie A titles with Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli.
He has won the Premier League and FA Cup during his time at Chelsea, and has also managed Tottenham Hotspur.
However, the Italian is a notoriously combustible character who has repeatedly fallen out with his players and employers.
Carrick performed an impressive job during his interim spell at United to land the permanent position.
But results have been disappointing this season. They have picked up just six points from six games and are sitting 13th in the Premier League.
United’s last game was a frustrating 1-1 draw against Tottenham, who managed to rescue a point after a stoppage-time equaliser from Dominic Solanke.
The club’s hierarchy have backed Carrick, but their patience could evaporate if results do not improve soon.
The English boss faces a potentially decisive week with tough away fixtures against Atletico Madrid and Leeds United.
