The Central Equatoria State caretaker government has prioritized peace, security, public finance management, and service delivery as it begins implementing its policy agenda under Governor Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday after the first ordinary Council of Ministers meeting, Joseph Pitia Kenyi, the state minister of Information, said the council adopted the policy priorities, including maintaining government operations and ensuring peaceful, credible and orderly elections.
“The main agenda that the Council discussed is the policy of His Excellency the Governor-Caretaker of Central Equatoria State. One of them is the responsibility of maintaining continuity of the government, peaceful, credible and orderly elections,” he said. “We shall maintain peace and security, unity and reconciliation. It is a collective responsibility of the Government of Central Equatoria State and public service delivery and institutional coordination.”
Pitia said the Council of Ministers had adopted a policy on public finance and revenue mobilization, tasking the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Investment with overseeing the management of government resources.
“The Council has listened to the policy and adopted the public finance and revenue mobilization policy,” he said.
He added that the finance ministry was expected to take responsibility for government resources during the caretaker administration.
“The Council also encourages the minister of finance, as a caretaker government, to take charge of the resources of the government,” Pitia said.
The information minister said the Ministry of Local Government and Law Enforcement had also been tasked with strengthening security across counties and communities as the country prepares for elections.
He called on communities to remain calm and support efforts to maintain stability.
“Let the communities remain calm and wait for elections,” Pitia added.
He said the Council directed the Ministry of Agriculture to raise awareness about the possibility of drought and encourage communities to take preventive measures. He said food security remained essential, particularly amid concerns about possible climate-related challenges and the wider global situation.
“So, the Council has directed the Minister of Agriculture to raise awareness among the communities so that we take appropriate measures to address the risks,” he said.
The Council also discussed land management, with Pitia saying the governor had directed that land be administered appropriately to enable residents to acquire it through proper procedures.
“The Council also listens to the policy, and the governor has directed that land be managed so that people may appropriately acquire the land,” he said.
On education, the minister said the education ministry was directed to document government schools to improve oversight and support access to education.
