MONROVIA, October 15, 2026 – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has suspended the Director General of the Food Authority of Liberia (FAL), Precellia Cherue Gborgar, without pay, pending an investigation into allegations of gross administrative malfeasance.
According to the Executive Mansion, the suspension took immediate effect on October 13, 2026, following complaints concerning Cherue’s administration of the institution.
The President has constituted a special investigative panel headed by his Legal Adviser to examine the allegations and establish the circumstances surrounding the complaints.
The Executive Mansion did not disclose details of the alleged misconduct, and no findings have been announced.
Meanwhile, President Boakai has appointed the institution’s Deputy Director General for Administration, Georgette N. Gray, as Acting Director General pending the outcome of the investigation.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening accountability, improving governance and ensuring due process across public institutions.
He urged government officials to discharge their responsibilities with competence, integrity and dedication, emphasizing that public service requires accountability to the Liberian people.
Appointed by President Boakai in March 2025, Cherue has overseen efforts to operationalize the Food Authority and strengthen Liberia’s food safety regulatory framework.
The institution regulates food and feed safety and quality throughout the country’s supply chain to protect consumers and ensure compliance with national standards.
The Food and Feed Quality and Safety Act of 2019 establishes its mandate.
Cherue remains under investigation, and no determination of wrongdoing has been announced.
