The BJP will launch a campaign in Dakshina Kannada from the coming week to counter opposition protests over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and misinformation being spread over electoral rolls revision, according to Satish Kumpala, president, Dakshina Kannada unit of the party.
Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, he said that the ‘loktantra bachao, bheedtantra hatao’ (save democracy, remove mobocracy) campaign is aimed at creating public awareness on SIR of electoral rolls, voter list accuracy and Constitutional processes.
District and Assembly constituency-level padayatras and interactive sessions with youth and intellectuals over SIR will be held as part of the campaign, he said.
Mr. Kumpala said that the campaign, especially interactive sessions with youth and intellectuals, will go on till November 30 while the padayatras will be held within November 5.
A committee led by Kishore Kumar Puttur, MLC, has been constituted to conduct the campaign as part of the national campaign of the party, Mr. Kumpala said. Mr. Kumpala alleged that Opposition parties supported by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are trying to create anarchy in the country by spreading misinformation over SIR.
He said the Congress is interpreting “vote chori” as per its convenience. The Congress won elections to Keralam Assembly only after the SIR. “Then the Congress did not recite the mantra of vote chori,” he said.
He said that the NDA even won the local elections conducted using ballot papers in Assam and Tripura. It revealed the trust of voters over NDA.
Protests in front of local bodies
Mr. Kumpala said that the BJP will take out a 1-km padayatra in the jurisdiction of 250 local bodies, including urban and rural, across the district on different days between October 25 and November 15 to highlight the administrative failure of the Congress-led State government. It will be followed by protests in front of gram panchayats and urban local bodies.
A padayatra will be taken out from Kavoor to Lalbagh in Mangaluru city and a protest will be staged in front of Mangaluru City Corporation at Lalbagh.
