Andy Carroll, a high-profile English footballer who revealed the name of the celebrity who sexually abused him, opens up about the sexual assault he suffered and states that "he will never get over it".'
The former Liverpool player, who was capped nine times by England, revealed the name of the "well-known celebrity" who sexually assaulted him after learning that the name of choreographer and dancer Kevin Adams appeared in publicly accessible court documents.
Kevin Adams was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court to 20 months in prison in 2023. He was also placed on the sex offenders register and banned from entering the village where Carroll lived.
'The dancer tried to claim in his defense that Carroll had assaulted him, but the judge told him: "You made up a literally unbelievable story in which you portrayed yourself as the victim. In fact, you have come to believe your own lies".'
'Andy Carroll, on his sexual assault: "There are things you can't get over, and I'll never get over that"'
'Andy Carroll, who is 37 years old and still active at Dagenham & Redbridge of the National League South, confessed on the program "Football Uncensored" that "it was eating away at me inside for a long time".'
'When the name was revealed, I panicked and thought: "I don't want to talk to anyone." And I isolated myself. Before that, I was more or less okay. It was already known, it had happened'
Andy Carroll
"There are things that cannot be overcome, and I will never overcome that. But now I know that people can see who I was back then, at that moment, and what I have been through; they help me and support me," the renowned Piers Morgan acknowledged.
The former Newcastle, Preston North End, West Ham, Newcastle, Reading, West Bromwich, Amiens and Bordeaux player shared that "until two weeks ago, when it came to light, I was still thinking in the back of my mind: "When is it going to break? When is the name going to come out?". It was really very difficult".
"So, when the name was revealed, I panicked and thought: "I don't want to talk to anyone." And I isolated myself. Before that, I was more or less okay. It was known, it had happened. Now I'm at Dagenham and my teammates have been fantastic, as have the coaching staff and everyone else. But when it came time for the name to be made public, I just panicked and didn't know what to do... The comments I've been receiving on social media give me some support to say: "Yes, go ahead, it has to be brought to light and people need to know about it, because no one talks about this"," he said.

Very well-known footballers; I have received calls from them thanking me
Andy Carroll
When Piers Morgan asked him whether those who had confided that to him had experienced a similar situation with another man, Carroll confirmed: "Yes."
"Very well-known footballers; I have received calls from them thanking me. And, for me, including it in the book was the right thing to do... I must have received hundreds and hundreds of messages," he said.
Andy Carroll described his sexual assault: "The guy was under the duvet trying to perform oral sex on me"
Andy Carroll revealed in his book "Owning It" that he suffered a "traumatic" assault several years ago, but decided to share the details "at the last moment" after long conversations with his publisher.
Carroll explained that he was assaulted the night after a Newcastle United match, when his "famous friend" invited himself over to his house to watch a boxing match. The footballer said he woke up after having had "a few drinks" and found his friend trying to perform oral sex on him.
It's hard to pronounce his name. Talking about it is hard; I haven't gotten over it —and probably never will—, but I feel somewhat relieved that it has come to light

He said, "I sleep naked and, when I woke up, this guy was under the duvet trying to perform fellatio on me. I hit him as hard as I could and he fell to the floor," he wrote in his book.
The "famous friend" was Kevin Adams, a famous choreographer and dancer who took part as a teacher on a BBC "talent show" in 2002, as well as on "Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two" in 2021.
"I've been tormenting myself over this matter and, as soon as I told it, I received enormous support. I think that's the most important thing for me: if I had said it five years ago, when it happened, maybe I would feel much better now and would have already gotten over it. It's hard to say his name. Talking about it is hard; I haven't gotten over it —and probably never will—, but I feel somewhat relieved that it has come to light," Carroll acknowledged.
The footballer, who at the time was playing for Newcastle, stressed that "people can see what I have been through. My spell back at Newcastle was not good. Obviously, that was going on in the background... a lot was happening, I was having a hard time and I probably did not have the support I needed. Now I feel that I do have it, and I also feel that support from the public. I think people come up to me at matches and make kind comments."
