- For 2027, Lexus is expanding the availability of the Matador Red Mica paint and simplifying the TX500h’s badging.
Lexus launched the TX in 2024 as a mid-size three-row SUV to slot in between the RX and LX, and offered the TX with a gas-only powertrain along with two hybrids, one with a traditional setup and one with a more complex plug-in hybrid system. For 2027, Lexus is giving the TX a handful of small tweaks, but the biggest update is actually the disappearance of the TX550h+ plug-in hybrid.

The TX’s PHEV model is officially being discontinued, Lexus has confirmed, with the 2026 model year being its last. Lexus didn’t provide a reason, but the evidence is pretty clear if you take a peek at the automaker’s sales charts. While Lexus sold 57,346 units of the TX in 2025, just 953 of those were the PHEV model, compared to 10,740 examples of the hybrid TX500h. In fact, 2025 represented the TX550h+’s peak, although the PHEV model will likely beat that figure this year, since it has already logged 953 sales through the third quarter of 2026. Still, it is a fraction of the TX’s overall sales and lags far behind the standard hybrid model.
While the plug-in hybrid model is gone, Lexus is adding some new features to the rest of the TX lineup for 2027. After Lexus added Matador Red Mica as a paint color for the F Sport trims in 2026, it is now expanding that striking hue to the non-F Sport models for 2027. Continuing the theme, F Sport models can also now be spec’d with red-painted brake calipers. The nonhybrid TX350 is getting minor changes to the vacuum brake booster tuning and the brake hold feature, and the TX350’s 20-inch aluminum wheels get a darker gray finish. The TX500h, meanwhile, will ditch the “DIRECT4” badging, instead wearing a simpler “AWD” badge.
