Pakistanis faced hours of waiting in long queues, and had to make repeated visits just to get documents attested, and now Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has changed the experience with a new digital attestation system launched on 12 October 2026.
Now, eligible applicants can apply online, complete payments digitally, and receive their attestation certificates by email, making the process simpler, faster, and more convenient. Here’s how the new system works and how you can apply from home.
Which Documents Can Be Submitted?
- University degrees, transcripts, and school or college certificates.
- Birth certificates, marriage certificates, and other eligible civil records.
- Powers of attorney, affidavits, and other documents accepted under the relevant procedure.

Apply for MOFA Attestation Online
Step 1: Open the Official Portal
Visit https://portal-attestation.mofa.gov.pk.
Use the official website rather than third-party services claiming to provide guaranteed or expedited attestation.
Step 2: Register or Sign In
If you are applying for the first time, create an account using the registration options available on the website. If you already have an account, sign in with your registered credentials.
Complete any email verification or identity checks requested by the system.
Step 3: Select the Appropriate Service
Choose the service relevant to your requirements, such as general document attestation or apostille attestation, if available for your document category.
Before proceeding, confirm which service is accepted by the organization or country where you intend to use the document.
Step 4: Enter Your Details and Upload Documents
Complete the application form with the requested information. Upload readable copies of your document and any supporting records required by the portal.
Before submission, check that:
- Your personal details are accurate.
- The document category is correct.
- All required pages are visible.
- Supporting records are included.
- The uploaded files meet the portal’s specifications.
Incorrect information or incomplete documentation may delay processing.
Step 5: Submit the Application for Verification
Submit the completed application and retain any reference number or confirmation provided by the system.
MOFA will review the application according to the applicable requirements. Monitor your account and email for status updates or requests for additional information.
Do not assume that submission alone means the document has been approved.
Step 6: Pay the Applicable Fee
If the application is approved for payment, follow the portal’s instructions to pay the prescribed fee through an available payment method.
Check the amount displayed by the official system before paying. Fees quoted in older online guides may no longer be current.
Step 7: Receive Your Attestation Certificate
After the required verification and payment steps have been completed, follow the portal’s instructions for receiving the attestation certificate.
Under the reported digital arrangement, eligible applicants can receive an electronic certificate by email. Check your inbox and spam folder if the expected notification does not arrive.
Download the original certificate and keep a secure copy. Do not modify the file, and confirm with the receiving organization how it verifies or accepts electronic certificates.
MOFA Attestation Fees in Pakistan
Some earlier guides have cited approximate charges of Rs3,000 for personal or educational documents, Rs4,500 for certain legal documents, and Rs12,000 for commercial documents. These amounts should not be treated as confirmed 2026 rates without checking the current official schedule.
To avoid paying the wrong amount, consult the MOFA portal before making a payment. Both services authenticate documents, but they are not interchangeable in every situation.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Avoid these mistakes when applying for MOFA attestation online:
- Uploading unclear, incomplete, or incorrect documents.
- Applying before completing required HEC, IBCC, or other preliminary verification.
- Selecting the wrong attestation service.
- Paying an outdated fee quoted by an unofficial website.
- Ignoring email notifications or requests for additional documents.
- Assuming that every application will be processed without physical documentation.
- Using unofficial agents or sharing account credentials with unknown parties.
Reviewing your application before submission can help prevent avoidable delays.
