The traditional Paraíso do Algarve restaurant, in the heart of the countryside near Paderne, was the venue for the recent tasting and lunch enjoyed by members of the Algarve Wine Society (AWS).
Rui Virgínia, owner and winemaker of the nearby Quinta do Barranco Longo, the Algarve’s largest privately-owned vineyard, presented six of his flagship wines to more than 70 wine society members, pairing them with a traditional Algarvian menu of squid, roast fillet of pork, local cheeses and a dessert which paired perfectly with the award-winning Late Harvest.
Said Barbara Kurau, committee member of the AWS: “With Rui’s new state of the art winery comprising an underground cellar, rooftop restaurant and futuristic tasting room not opening until 2027, we chose the nearby Paraíso do Algarve Restaurant where Helena Gonçalves and her incredible team provided a superb venue and meal which accompanied the wines perfectly.”

Rui Virgínia was accompanied by Vera Franco, the winery’s Head of Sales who dealt with the many purchases by members after the event, with the Tinto Reserva 2013 in magnum proving to be one of the most popular of the wines.
“It’s not difficult to understand why this inland gem in the crown of Algarve wines is growing in size and importance,” she added. “We will hopefully be back to taste a selection of Rui’s premium wines in 2027, to coincide with the inauguration of the exciting new complex!”
