Sharon Horgan has revealed that Liam Gallagher almost appeared in her BBC comedy series Motherland.
The 56-year-old star recalled how the Oasis rocker told her that the sitcom was his favourite TV show when she attended one of his gigs with Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess.
And he even expressed an interest in appearing in the 2020 Christmas special.
Speaking on the latest episode of Dish from Waitrose podcast, Sharon recalled: 'I went to see Liam. I was there with Tim Burgess, and we were at the side of the stage. It was so cool.
'And when he was coming off, he was like, "All right, Timothee". And then he said, "You make my favourite show".
'And then I got really giddy, obviously and was like "Which one?" I was not expecting Motherland! Not at all.'
Motherland creator Sharon Horgan has revealed Liam Gallagher almost had a cameo in her hit BBC comedy after he confessed it is his favourite TV show
Speaking on the latest episode of Dish from Waitrose podcast, Sharon recalled: 'I went to see Liam... And when he was coming off, he was like... "You make my favourite show"'
The Catastrophe actress explained that Liam's partner Debbie Gwyther told her that the Wonderwall rocker wanted a 'walk-on part' in the Christmas episode – which ultimately saw Toploader lead singer Joseph Washbourn appear as himself.
Sharon continued: 'And then his partner, she's so lovely. She was saying he would love to do, you know, a walk-on part. So, we were doing this, I think it was a Christmas special, and we had this teacher.
'I think the guy from Toploader ended up... We had a teacher who just – sort of rocks out on the guitar, and we were thinking it would be so funny if they did that.
'Or even if you just walk by the school gates – he just walks by with like – eight children. But, you know, that was a bit of a pipe dream.
'So amazing – that he was watching it.'
Sharon's latest project sees her star in her new comedy series Youth, in which she plays a divorcée in her 50s as she tries to balance juggling a career, caring for her teenage son and looking after her elderly parents.
Recently premiering on HBO, she says the idea for the programme stemmed from her separation from her former husband Jeremy Rainbird in 2019.
She said: 'I started writing it about six or seven years ago, pre-Bad Sisters.

'And it was just reflecting what I was feeling at the time. And what I was feeling was, you know, I had hit 50 and I was not in a relationship. I'd just come out of a long-term one.
'And I was thinking, well, that's it now – for me. And I remember saying to my Bad Sisters sisters that I was never gonna have sex again.
'And I was just like, well, that's it now. And I had a good innings. And I just, you know, at that time wasn't thinking about starting over.
'I was kind of thinking of it as an end, and I was feeling quite down about it.'
