Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has expressed enormous respect for José Mourinho ahead of Sunday’s El Clásico against Real Madrid, praising the Portuguese coach’s achievements at the clubs he has managed.
In a post shared on X by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Flick recalled meeting Mourinho in Madrid while serving as assistant to former Germany coach Joachim Löw.
“My respect for Mourinho is enormous. Mourinho has shown his ability at every club he’s coached,” Flick said.
“I remember meeting him once in Madrid, when I was Joachim Löw’s assistant with Germany”.

The Barcelona manager explained that the visit was arranged because some German players were playing for Real Madrid at the time, adding that Mourinho’s former players spoke highly of him.
“We went to visit him because some of our players were there. What I can say is that all the players who had worked under him spoke of him with tremendous respect, and I share that same opinion,” he said.
Flick further described Mourinho as a successful manager whose work he greatly admires.
“He’s a colleague who has had tremendous success and a great coach whom I respect enormously,” he added.
Barcelona head into the encounter unbeaten in the league as they prepare to face their arch-rivals in one of football’s biggest fixtures.
