Tom Brady’s transition from NFL superstar to television analyst has brought him a lucrative second career, but his broadcasting responsibilities are complicated by his ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion signed a 10-year, $375 million contract with FOX, earning approximately $37.5 million annually. He also became a minority owner of the Raiders after NFL team owners approved the deal in October 2024.

However, combining these positions means Brady must follow strict league rules governing his access, commentary and potential return to playing.
His first season in the broadcast booth wasn’t easy. Brady initially struggled with excessive preparation and relying too heavily on notes.
Over time, he refined his approach, focusing more on analysing matchups and anticipating plays. FOX’s NFL broadcasts averaged 18.7 million viewers during the 2025-26 season, representing a six percent increase.
The four NFL restrictions affecting Brady’s broadcasting role
The NFL introduced safeguards to address potential conflicts of interest arising from Brady’s dual roles. While some restrictions have been adjusted, the rules continue to influence his work as FOX’s lead analyst.
One major limitation concerns access to team facilities. Brady faces restrictions on visiting NFL facilities, observing practices and gathering information directly from players and coaches.
This can make preparing for broadcasts more challenging, particularly when team insights could strengthen his analysis.
His participation in production meetings has also been restricted. Brady was initially prohibited from attending these sessions both in person and virtually, limiting his opportunities to hear directly from coaches ahead of games.
The NFL subsequently relaxed some rules, allowing him to participate remotely, although his access remains different from that of other broadcasters.
Another significant challenge involves public criticism of officials and rival teams. League rules restrict Brady from making certain public comments about referees and other clubs.
Viewers often expect a former quarterback of his experience to offer opinions on controversial decisions and opposing teams, making this limitation particularly relevant to his broadcasting role.
The final restriction concerns a potential return to the field. Brady can’t resume playing in the NFL while retaining his ownership interest in the Raiders.
In an interview with CNBC, he acknowledged asking the league about a possible comeback, although he said officials weren’t enthusiastic about the idea.
The NFL also raised potential salary-cap complications involving an active player who owns part of a franchise.
Brady subsequently reiterated that he was happy in retirement, despite enjoying the opportunity to play in a flag football event.
"I actually have inquired, and they don't like that idea very much," said Brady. "So I'm going to leave it at that.
"We explored a lot of different things, and I'm very happily retired. Let me just say that, too."
FOX pays Brady for his football knowledge and distinctive perspective, but league regulations limit some of the access and commentary that could enhance his coverage.
However, improved performances in the booth and rising viewership suggest the partnership continues to deliver value.
