Santo Domingo.- The transformation of República de Colombia Avenue is advancing with major infrastructure works aimed at improving traffic flow between the National District and Santo Domingo North.
The project, led by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), includes the construction of a more than 200-meter-long viaduct over the Arroyo Hondo ravine, the installation of beams on the bridge connecting with Jacobo Majluta Avenue, and excavation for a tunnel beneath the Cuba neighborhood.
Excavation is also underway for a trench that will connect the viaduct with Pérez Ricart Avenue, forming part of a broader redesign of traffic circulation in the area.
The infrastructure project is divided into three sections: from the Duarte Highway to Jacobo Majluta Avenue, from there to Pérez Ricart Avenue, and finally to Los Próceres Avenue. It incorporates bridges, viaducts, tunnels and trenches to improve connectivity.
As an interim measure, four operational return lanes have been opened between Monumental and Jacobo Majluta avenues, helping ease traffic during peak hours, particularly for motorists traveling from Santo Domingo Oeste.
The completed project is expected to benefit more than one million residents of Greater Santo Domingo by reducing travel times and providing more direct and continuous connections across the metropolitan area.
