Juba City Council has awarded three quarter councils for their performance in the Keeping Juba Clean campaign, recognising their efforts to improve sanitation and waste management across the city.
Deputy Mayor for Environment and Waste Management, Stephen Lomude, announced the winners during a press conference in Juba on Tuesday.
Lomude said Gudele Block 7 emerged as the best-performing quarter council among 57 competitors, receiving five million South Sudanese pounds.
Kator South came second and received three million pounds, while Hai Thoura West secured third place with an award of two million pounds.
“The area that emerged as number one is Gudele Block 7. You are the best among the 57 quarter councils. Kator South is second, then we have Hai Thoura West, which emerged number three with two million,” Lomude said.
The Keeping Juba Clean campaign was launched a month ago to promote cleanliness and improve waste management across the city’s quarter councils.
The awards are intended to recognise local efforts to maintain a cleaner urban environment and encourage other communities to improve sanitation practices.
