LIMPOPO — Five police officers have been arrested in Polokwane, Limpopo, on corruption charges, in a development that prompted a public response from senior provincial police leadership. The arrest happened a week after three officers in the same province were arrested in Sekhukhune for corruption.
According to SABC News, Limpopo provincial commissioner General Jan Scheepers did not hold back in condemning the behaviour of the arrested officers. Addressing corrupt members within the ranks on 19 October 2026, the official said:
"If you are corrupt and you're wearing the blue uniform, we will change it to an orange one."
Scheepers described the arrests as a painful moment, noting that the officers involved were young individuals with promising careers ahead of them.
"It's a sad day when we see young people with a bright future in front of them doing criminal activities," the official said.
The remarks also carried a broader message about the integrity of law enforcement.
"You cannot fight crime when you have criminals in your own rank. It cannot happen," the official stated.
The zero-tolerance pledge in Limpopo is part of a firm internal accountability drive. Scheepers, whose appointment was recently celebrated by residents, indicated that both the management team and the province were united in their commitment to rooting out corruption from within the service.
No further details regarding the specific nature of the corruption charges, or the identities of the five arrested officers, were provided during the broadcast.
