Police detained a 21-year-old youngster and seized a pistol from his Mahindra XUV300 during a search near Samar Smriti Milanayatan in Boxanagar under Kalamchoura police station in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Saturday night, police sources said.

The accused, identified as Hriday Mia, a resident of the Boxanagar panchayat area, is the son of Rabiul Basar. Police reportedly took him into custody following an altercation with his father while he was in his vehicle.

During subsequent questioning, police suspected that the vehicle might contain something illegal. A search was then conducted in the presence of an Additional Magistrate, during which a pistol was recovered from the car.

However, the source of the firearm, the reason for keeping it in the vehicle and whether anyone else was involved in the incident remain unclear.

Police are investigating the matter to establish the circumstances under which the weapon was kept in the car and to determine whether any other person was connected with the case.
