Lere Olayinka, spokesperson for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid by politicians outside the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the move does not amount to anti-party activity.
Olayinka made the position known during an interview on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines on Thursday, October 22.
He argued that the support was limited to the presidential election and should not be interpreted as an agreement to abandon individual parties in other contests during the 2027 general elections.
“For the first time in history of politics in this country, the people from other parties are now supporting him. So, it’s not anti-party,” he said.

Olayinka also cited comments attributed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national leadership in support of his argument, saying the party had not disowned the position backing Tinubu.

“PDP has come out only to say, we are backing this person,” he said during the interview.
According to him, the support for Tinubu at the presidential level does not automatically determine how parties and politicians will approach National Assembly, governorship and state assembly elections.
He maintained that political considerations differ from one constituency and local government area to another, making it possible for politicians to support the same presidential candidate while pursuing separate interests in other elections.
