Looking to maintain at least a share of first place in the AFC North, the Cleveland Browns (4-2) head to Nashville on Sunday to take on the Titans (1-5). The Browns have won four of their last five games and sit tied atop the AFC North while the Titans reside in the cellar of the AFC South but did win their first game of their season last weekend.
Cleveland’s surprising start has been based on a stingy defense that ranks among the league’s best, allowing just 20.3 points per game and recording 19 sacks through six games. Tennessee has labored on offense. They scored 26 points last week, but it defied the stats. In the win, Tennessee ran just 45 plays as opposed to 78 for Indianapolis.
Cleveland is coming off one of its biggest wins of the season, a 13-10 victory over the Ravens last Sunday. Baltimore had averaged 30 points per game over their first five games but were stifled last weekend earning just 13 first downs and gaining only 235 yards. It was another example of the formula that has carried Cleveland this season: strong defensive play and enough quarterback production to close out games. As noted earlier, Tennessee finally broke into the win column with a 26-20 road victory over Indianapolis last weekend. The Titans’ defense came up with several key stops late in the game.
The key storyline centers on whether Tennessee’s newfound momentum is sustainable or if Cleveland’s defense will control the game. The Browns own advantages in record, experience, and defensive production, particularly up front where their pass rush ranks second in the NFL with 19 sacks. Tennessee counters with a defense that has quietly remained competitive despite the team’s record and features veterans capable of disrupting Cleveland’s offense.
Frankly, neither of these teams can be trusted and so this game may well come down to turnovers and late game field position.
Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find an additional sweat or two.

Here are the best bets our model is projecting for Sunday’s game between the Browns and the Titans:
- Moneyline: NBC Sports is staying away from a play on the Moneyline.
- Spread: NBC Sports is staying away from a play on the Spread.
- Total: NBC Sports is recommending a play on the Game Total UNDER 37.5.
Here’s why the Game Total UNDER 37.5 is the best bet:
The UNDER is a matchup play between two, bottom-five offenses and two Top 10 scoring defenses. Cleveland ranks 29th in offensive DVOA and 32nd in third-down conversion rate, while Tennessee ranks 28th in offensive DVOA and 32nd in touchdown percentage. The Total has been bet down from 38.5 to 37.5, and the sharp money sits at 50.88% on the Under. The one thing working against the Under is the head-to-head history — the last three meetings have averaged 55.3 combined points. But that’s a tiny sample from different rosters, and this year’s matchup, with two broken offenses and two quality defenses, sets up very differently. It will be a sweat but its a smart play.
