Last Thursday, October 15, a shooting at the Bend elementary school, in the state of Oregon, caused the death of five people, in addition to two seriously injured people who had to be taken to the hospital. Mike Krantz, the Police Chief, confirmed that the events began when gunshots were heard against the doors, which were locked at that moment.
According to the EFE news agency, the shooter was a 16-year-old teenager who, after entering Silver Rail Elementary School, began firing at children and teachers. As a result, three children aged five, eight, and 11, as well as a teacher, were killed.
A local resident, apparently, did not hesitate to enter the premises, pursue and confront the shooter. During this incident and, while the authorities were arriving, this man ended up shooting the 16-year-old, who died.
Oregon governor asks for respect and will not provide more information for the time being
Everything happened around 1:00 p.m. (8:00 p.m. in Spain), when a 911 call alerted that someone was shooting at him while he was in his own vehicle. Upon arriving at the school, officers found the five fatalities, including the shooter, about whom details such as the name, the motive for the attack, or the type of weapon used are unknown.
Tina Kotek, Oregon’s Democratic governor, wanted to say a few words about the incident and asked for respect for the family and for their mourning to be respected, so questions and answers about what happened would be left for later. “There will be time to answer all the questions we are asking ourselves now and to look for more ways to prevent this from happening again,” she wrote on social media.
