Former IPS officer and founder of ‘We The Leaders’ K. Annamalai said on Saturday that politics in Karnataka needs to become more responsible than limiting to a style of politics that seeks votes by promising freebies.
Speaking at the State-level retailers’ convention of the All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA) in Udupi, Mr. Annamalai said that political parties should focus on providing good governance to the State. Karnataka deserves better governance. It is not enough for development to be concentrated solely in Bengaluru, he said.
“Karnataka should not remain a State dependent solely on Bengaluru, but rather achieve development across all its regions,” he said.
Mr. Annamalai said that a change in the political system is possible only when competition between political parties is based on developmental projects. The government’s achievements should serve as the benchmark for political rivalry. Such a responsible and competitive political system can lead to improvements in governance, he said.
Mr. Annamalai said that politics should not be limited merely to a “poster culture”. Instead of putting up posters announcing the arrival of a Chief Minister or a former Chief Minister, there should be posters that inform the public about the contributions the government.
