Namibia and Germany have signed a N$103-million agreement to improve energy access and support green industrialisation.
German ambassador Thomas Wimmer and National Planning Commission director general Kaire Mbuende signed the agreement during a meeting in Windhoek last week.
A statement issued by the German embassy and the National Planning Commission says the agreement launches two projects aimed at expanding access to sustainable energy and developing responsible value chains for critical raw materials.
One project will support Namibia’s target of increasing access to modern energy services from 59.3% to 70% by 2030.
The second will focus on local value addition, transparency and economic opportunities linked to the global energy transition.
The statement says the projects will contribute to Namibia’s “energy transition and green industrialisation objectives”.
The projects were agreed during bilateral development cooperation negotiations between the two countries held at Lüderitz in 2025.
Germany’s development cooperation portfolio in Namibia comprises more than 50 projects covering sustainable energy, vocational training, urban development and natural resource management.
The statement says Germany has provided more than €1.6 billion (about N$30 billion) in financial and technical support to Namibia since 1990.
