Bae Kyung-hoon, deputy prime minister and minister of science and ICT, said the government will "swiftly prepare cross-ministry countermeasures" in response to concerns over illegal filming using artificial intelligence smart glasses.
Bae made the remarks on the 23rd during a comprehensive parliamentary audit by the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, responding to a question from Rep. Lee Jung-heon of the Democratic Party of Korea. "We are preparing guidelines, and we will further accelerate that work," he said.

At the audit, Lee had three of his aides wear either ordinary eyeglasses or Meta's AI smart glasses, then asked Bae, Vice Minister Koo Hyuk-chae and Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myung of the Ministry of Science and ICT to identify who was wearing the smart glasses. The demonstration was intended to highlight the risk that smart glasses could be misused for illegal filming, as recent models are difficult to distinguish from ordinary eyeglasses in appearance.
Bae added that "the president also raised the seriousness of this issue at this week's Cabinet meeting, and responses will likely be needed at the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Ministry of Education as well."
