Sade Sati: How to check Saturn's phase in your birth chart and its meaning

If a person’s lifetime is 60 years, he will face struggles in the phase of Sade Sati twice and thrice if he lives for 90 years because this phase comes after every 30 years, according to Astro Sanjivani.

Sade Sati is called so because it means seven and a half, which refers to the 7.5 years that Saturn takes to transit through three consecutive zodiac signs. Since Saturn is a slow-moving planet, it spends approximately 2.5 years in one zodiac sign. Saturn completes the full zodiac cycle after every 30 years. Let’s look at how each of its three phases of Sade Sati unfolds:

The first phase of sade sati can feel a bit tense and heavy. It occurs when Saturn transits the 12th house and leads to an increased amount of expenses, may lead to house shifting and cause discomfort.

This phase teaches you to take care of your physical and mental health with good sleep and meditation.

The second phase of sade sati is considered tougher than the first one, in which Saturn transits over the moon. This can create emotional seriousness in a person as well as responsibility and family pressure. For some people it also acts as a turning point for career, family or deeper self.

In the final phase of sade sati you work through money, speech, obligations and food habits.

You may face some hurdles and financial problems, as it will be the fourth aspect from the third aspect and lead to unhappiness. It feels slow but also helps a person stabilise and perceive what they learn in a positive light.Other than these phases, two more phases in life are considered to be problematic for some. It is called Shani Dhaiya, it is caused due to the transition of Saturn. As Saturn transits into the fourth house from the natal moon, it's called Artha-Ashtam Shani.

Whereas if Saturn transits the 8th house from the natal moon, then it is called Ashtam Shani. The degree of negative influence of the Sade Sati and Shani Dhaiya is dependent on the placements of the Moon and Saturn in your horoscope.

Understanding Sade Sati Phase

But why does Saturn create these difficult periods in the first place? The answer lies in what he represents. Saturn is the planet for Karma, discipline and reality checks, as well as necessary endings.

When it transits over the Moon zone, it tends to destroy our emotional comfort. Moon represents mother, comfort and sensitivity. This dissolution can be uncomfortable and lead to the end of relationships that were not meant to last.

It can lead to switching careers which may have felt boring and financially comfortable but not spiritually aligned. Such careers may feel convenient, but their financial patterns may not be stable.

This prompts you to pay attention to your health, which you may have been neglecting for some time. All this happens because it's the nature of Saturn; it is not trying to punish you but trying to guide you on a different path that might be better for you. If you resist these changes, you may suffer more. It is important not to cling on to things that are not working in your favour and instead find a different path that you are more interested to go into.

You will evolve the most in this period of life only if you make efforts to understand what is, alternatively, best for you.
