PETALING JAYA: One-way fares for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) from Gombak to Kota Bharu will start at RM125 for the transit service and RM147 for the express service, with tickets going on sale in mid-November.
Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) said the transit service would stop at every station, while the express service would stop at four main stations: Gombak, KotaSAS, Kuala Terengganu and Kota Bharu.
It said a dynamic pricing mechanism would be used, with ticket prices varying according to departure times, demand and seat availability.
One-way starting fares between Gombak and Kuala Terengganu are RM95 for the transit service and RM110 for the express service. Between Gombak and KotaSAS, they are RM60 and RM68 respectively.
MRL said the government approved the proposed fare structure on Oct 16, ahead of the planned launch of commercial passenger services in mid-December.
The government also approved a 50% discount for children aged two to 12, Malaysian senior citizens aged 60 and above, card-holding persons with disabilities and government pensioners. Students aged 13 to 24 will receive a 40% discount.
Express services from Gombak to Kota Bharu are expected to take about four hours, compared with up to five hours for transit services.
MRL said 12 daily services, six in each direction, would operate from Monday to Thursday, increasing to 16 daily services, or eight in each direction, from Friday to Sunday. About 2.2 million seats are planned for 2027.
Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said in August that the government was seeking to bring forward the start of commercial passenger services from January 2027 to December 2026, subject to testing and certification.
