Tom Brady knows what it takes to make a top quarterback in the NFL and Caleb Williams is certainly someone impressing him right now.
The 24-year-old made his return to the Chicago Bears at the weekend following a number of weeks on the sideline with his infamous hamstring injury. Williams took no time to settle back into the swing of things as the Bears marched to victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
During the game against the Falcons, Williams was able to throw for an impressive 305 yards and a touchdown. He did take four sacks, but it was still an impressive return for the quarterback, and it certainly impressed Brady.
Tom Brady wowed by Caleb Williams’ return from injury
The Bears are in a really good position in the NFC having managed to come out of their recent injury blow with Williams while maintaining a solid record. Chicago heads into a game against the New England Patriots on Thursday with a 4-2 record and what Brady saw from their offence filled him with a lot of hope for Ben Johnson’s team.
“Man, they played great. I was there to see it. They had 30 completions. They had 40 minutes time of possession. No picks. That’s the kind of football that brings a tear to my eye,” said Brady in his weekly power rankings.
“Caleb Williams, he really didn’t miss a beat. He looked great just like he did in the opener. He picked up this huge win in Atlanta and, the defence, they deserve a lot of credit.”
Williams is going to need to be at the top of his game over the coming weeks as the Bears prepare for back-to-back games against the Patriots and then the Seattle Seahawks. Although the Seahawks have struggled on offence this season, Mike Macdonald’s defence remains as tough as ever.
Brady showed his support for Williams ahead of the game in Atlanta at the weekend as he watched the quarterback go through his warmup. The future Hall of Famer also awarded Williams with his Player of the Game award after what was a seriously impressive showing.
