SEONGNAM — Eighty-seven researchers at Gachon University have been recognized for their global research influence.
Gachon University said on the 23rd that 87 of its researchers were included in the 2026 list of the world's top 2% of researchers, jointly released by Stanford University and global academic publisher Elsevier.
The figure is 20 more than the 67 selected last year, an increase of about 30%.
The list includes researchers across a range of fields, including artificial intelligence, computer engineering, semiconductors, bioscience and life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, nursing and engineering.
Kim Jong-woo, a professor in the Department of Smart City; Lee Sang-woong, a professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence; Kim Woo-sung, a professor in the Department of Computer Engineering; and Kim Sun-yeou, a professor in the Department of Pharmacy, were selected for a second consecutive year in both the career-long achievement and single-year achievement categories.
The world's top 2% list is compiled using Scopus, Elsevier's academic database.
The assessment uses a composite indicator that combines citation counts, the H-index, a co-authorship-adjusted measure and citation records for papers on which the researcher was the sole, first or corresponding author. The rankings are released annually in two separate categories, one for career-long achievement and one for the most recent year. The 2026 release covered 20 academic fields and 174 subfields.
Gachon University has been strengthening its research base with a focus on artificial intelligence, semiconductors and medical bioscience, and plans to further raise its global research competitiveness on the back of these results.
