CYBERJAYA: Pas has prepared a list of potential candidates for the upcoming Melaka election, with the final selection to be decided by the party's central leadership.
Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the list contained numerous names for consideration.
"There are many candidates on the list. Deciding who will ultimately contest is up to the Pas central leadership," he told a press conference after launching the Tafsir Al-Tibyan book here today.
He was responding to questions about Pas' candidates after Barisan Nasional confirmed that its candidate list was complete.
Yesterday, Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the coalition's list was ready and could be announced at any time.
Rauf was reported to have said he would not take long to announce the candidates as nomination day was approaching.
On the number of seats Pas would contest in the Melaka election, Hadi, who is also the Marang member of parliament, said discussions were still ongoing.
"The number of seats is still under discussion. The matter is still being discussed.
"It will be announced closer to nomination day," he said.
The Election Commission has set Nov 14 as polling day for the Melaka election, with nomination day on Oct 31 and early voting on Nov 10.
Melaka has 28 state seats. BN won 21 in the previous election, while Pakatan Harapan won five and Perikatan Nasional secured two.
