The death of young comedian and content creator Skeem Mafenya has left friends and fellow content creators heartbroken, with tributes celebrating his talent, creativity and the memories he leaves behind.
Mafenya, whose real name was Khadziyane Ndivhuwo, was 20 years old when he was fatally stabbed in the early hours of Saturday in Madonsi Boltman B, in the Malamulele policing area of Limpopo.
His death has prompted an outpouring of grief, with those paying tribute reflecting on the loss of a young life filled with promise and calling for justice for the much-loved entertainer.
Among those mourning him is Mu Zii, who struggled to come to terms with the thought of never hearing his friend's voice again.
“Rest in peace, bro. I never thought the day would come when I would never hear your voice again. Farewell, my brother. Until we meet again in the afterlife,” he said.
The grief was accompanied by a firm call for accountability, with Mu Zii insisting that Mafenya's life mattered and that those responsible must face the consequences of their actions.
“You will get justice, MoRra. Your life mattered, and we will never stop hoping that the truth comes out, that your killers are found, and that they face justice for what they have done,” he said.
For Prophet Commander, the loss was also deeply personal, as he remembered Mafenya as one of the most talented content creators to emerge from the area.
“Rest in peace to one of the most talented content creators ka Gaza. He was incredibly creative, smart and talented. I genuinely loved his content,” he said.
He added that the loss would be felt by the wider community of content creators, who had lost a talent whose work brought joy to many.
“I hope that, as the Gaza Nation and fellow content creators, we have lost the legend. Rest well, boy,” he said.
Noluthando Ngcobo also reflected on the pain of losing someone so young, describing death as a reminder of how uncertain life can be.
“Sometimes, life reminds us in the most painful way that tomorrow is never promised. No words can truly describe the pain of losing a young life with so much ahead of it,” she said.
Her words captured the heartbreak surrounding Mafenya's death, with his future cut short at just 20 years old.
Ngcobo extended her condolences to his family, friends and loved ones, hoping they would find comfort as they navigate the difficult days ahead.
“As we remember Skeem Mafenya, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. May they find strength, comfort and peace during this incredibly difficult time. May the memories they shared bring them comfort in the days ahead,” she said.
Bonolo Trish also paid tribute to the comedian, describing him as a legend whose memory would live on through his work.
“Rest well, comedian, legend, brother. Heaven has gained a joker. We will continue to mention your name, to share your work, and to keep your memory alive forever. Rest in peace,” she said.
Her words offered a poignant reminder that while Mafenya's life has ended, the content he created and the laughter he brought to others will remain part of his legacy.
As friends and fellow content creators mourned the young entertainer, police confirmed that three suspects, aged between 17 and 23, had been arrested in connection with his murder.
Police said they received a report at about 3.35am on Saturday of a person lying motionless inside a yard in Madonsi Boltman B.
Officers arrived to find Mafenya with multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, where he was declared dead.
The motive for the killing remains unknown, and the three suspects are expected to appear before the Malamulele Magistrates' Court on a murder charge.
