The Los Angeles Dodgers are in an unfamiliar spot, and Freddie Freeman is not sugarcoating why. Los Angeles fell 7-4 to the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series on Monday at American Family Field, putting the two-time defending champions in a 2-0 series hole.
The Dodgers managed just three hits all night, and none of their four runs came on a hit. After the game, Freeman kept his assessment simple.
“It’s hard to win games when you only get three hits,” Freeman said. “So, regroup tomorrow and go get them on Wednesday.”

Milwaukee’s bullpen has been the biggest obstacle. Dustin May, JoJo Romero, Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby combined to retire all 15 Dodgers they faced to close out Game 2, lowering the Brewers’ bullpen ERA this postseason to 0.31.
When asked what makes the Milwaukee relievers so tough, Freeman did not need long to answer. “They all throw 100 from different angles,” he said.
Freeman drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, but the Dodgers’ offense has largely gone quiet. Los Angeles went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position on Monday and is just 2-for-26 in those situations this postseason. The Dodgers also lost the first two games with their top two starters on the mound. Tarik Skubal started a 2-1 loss in Game 1, while Yoshinobu Yamamoto lasted only 2 2/3 innings on Monday, the shortest postseason start of his career.
Still, Freeman believes Los Angeles is in good hands with Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow lined up next.
“Now we got Blake and Glass,” Freeman said. “Still a pretty good scenario we’re in. We just got to hit better on Wednesday.
Freeman also gave Milwaukee its due, noting that both sides know what they are in for. “Yeah, it’s going to be a great series. They know they got a lot on their hands, too,” he said. “We’re just going to come out here on Wednesday and play better.”
The series shifts to Dodger Stadium for Game 3 on Wednesday. The Dodgers last came back from a 2-0 series deficit in the 2020 NLCS against the Atlanta Braves, a run that ended with a World Series title.
