A police corporal, identified as Amos Yusuf, has reportedly shot and killed his girlfriend, Woman Corporal Grace Abraham, before turning the rifle on himself in an incident that has left colleagues and residents in shock.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday October 23, although the circumstances surrounding the deaths have yet to be officially established.
According to a source familiar with the incident, Yusuf, who was assigned to night-duty station guard, resumed duty at about 6 p.m. but allegedly left his post a few hours later and proceeded to Grace’s quarters.
The source claimed that the corporal opened fire on Grace, inflicting gunshot wounds on her shoulder, lower abdomen and leg, before allegedly using the same AK-47 rifle to take his own life.
The motive behind the incident remains unclear, as police authorities have yet to release an official account of what transpired.
However, an unverified account circulating about the tragedy linked it to alleged disagreements in the officers’ romantic relationship.

Their alleged disagreements were said to have escalated into physical confrontations and threats, prompting intervention by divisional authorities.
The source further claimed that the officers had previously been detained by the Divisional Crime Officer, who allegedly counselled them to end their relationship to prevent further conflict.
Despite the reported intervention, the situation allegedly culminated in the fatal shooting.
The Kogi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu, confirmed awareness of the incident, stating that an investigation was ongoing.
She said an AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges were recovered at the scene as exhibits with the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for in-depth investigation.
Both officers were reportedly indigenes of Kogi State and joined the Nigeria Police Force in the same year. They were said to have undergone training together, passed out in the same year and subsequently served at the same location.
The tragedy has raised concerns about the circumstances leading to the deaths, although the alleged relationship disputes and other details remain unverified pending the outcome of the police investigation.
