Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament has approved a bill extending the registration period for foreign nationals and stateless persons from 10 to 15 working days after entering the country. The change is intended to simplify stay requirements and support tourism, according to the parliamentary newspaper Sadoi Mardum.
The amendments were considered on October 7 at a session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament. Deputy Interior Minister Bahodur Kholiqzoda presented the bill to lawmakers.
The proposed changes amend Part 2 of Article 5 of the law On the Legal Status of Foreign Nationals and Stateless Persons in the Republic of Tajikistan, extending the registration deadline by five working days.
Kholiqzoda said the measure would make it easier for foreign visitors to complete the required procedures after arrival and help develop tourism.
The bill has yet to complete the legislative process. It must be seconded by the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament), and signed by the president before the amendments can enter into force.
Foreign visitor numbers rise
Tajikistan recorded an increase in foreign visitor numbers in the first half of 2026.
According to official statistics, 889,400 foreign tourists visited the country between January and June, up by 127,100, or 16.7%, compared with the same period in 2025.
Overall, 1,063,400 foreign nationals entered Tajikistan during the six-month period. Of the tourists recorded, 806,900, or 90.7%, came from CIS countries, while another 82,500 arrived from countries outside the former Soviet Union.
The authorities attribute the growth in visitor numbers to improvements in tourism infrastructure, expanded air connections and simplified entry and stay procedures for foreign nationals.
