Riyadh – Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday the interception and destruction of a missile and a drone over Riyadh.
The Kingdom stated that it intercepted a Houthi missile targeting Riyadh, and later confirmed the interception and destruction of a drone over the capital.
Prior to the initial announcement, two explosions were heard in the Saudi capital, according to AFP, after authorities issued a brief warning of a potential threat.
The Saudi Civil Defense posted on its “X” platform that “an alert was issued from the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies in Riyadh to warn of a potential threat.”
Minutes later, a new message was posted announcing that the threat to Riyadh had been lifted.
Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have reached unprecedented levels this month, including several strikes on Riyadh airport, one of which killed 13 people and injured more than 300 on October 10.
In total, 20 people have been killed in attacks targeting Saudi airports since the beginning of this month.
Hostilities have resumed amid the war in the Middle East, with the collapse of a truce that had been in place in Yemen since 2022.
