The Chicago Bears received an encouraging update for their star quarterback, Caleb Williams, hours ahead of their game against the Green Bay Packers.
Williams hasn't played since his team's Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain while scrambling toward the end zone. He was carted off the field after the non-contact injury, and further evaluation revealed the Bears quarterback didn't have a serious injury, but his return wouldn't be immediate.
On Sunday, NFL Network and ESPN's Mike Garofolo reported that Williams is "pushing to play" next week for the Bears. According to Garofolo, the team will see how things progress this coming week, but Williams is attempting "to get back right on the timeline" for his expected return.

Without Williams playing, head coach Ben Johnson has relied on backup Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent, both of whom have delivered wins for the Bears.
Keenum shone under the spotlight in a "Monday Night Football" game against the Philadelphia Eagles, while Bagent led the Bears to a victory over the New York Jets.
Sunday presents a much different challenge, as even though the Packers are struggling early in the season, they will host the Bears and have a chance to bounce back with a win.
Last season, Williams helped the Bears defeat Green Bay in a regular-season game and later in the NFC Wild Card Round. However, some Bears fans may hope that Williams, who has a unique playing style, has been taking notes on what's worked from the Bears' backup quarterbacks this season during his injury recovery.
So far this season, Williams has 407 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the two games he has played for Chicago. He also has 107 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
In Williams' absence, the Bears' running back tandem of D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai continues to shine. They have a combined 635 yards and four touchdowns for the team through the first four games.
Williams could potentially return on Sunday, Oct. 18, when the Bears face the Atlanta Falcons, but that appears to be determined by the team's evaluations.
