The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Caretaker Governor of Central Equatoria State, Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, have discussed preparations for the launch of a roadmap aimed at addressing the needs of internally displaced persons, returnees, refugees and host communities in early November.
The roadmap aligns with South Sudan’s Durable Solutions Strategy and Plan of Action and will cover all six counties and administrative payams of Central Equatoria State.
The document will guide interventions to address barriers to sustainable return, local integration and relocation through an area-based approach.
IOM Deputy Chief of Mission Newson Michael said the roadmap would provide guidance for developing durable solutions for displaced communities and returnees over the next three to five years.
“This is a roadmap for the state of Central Equatoria on durable solutions. So, it’s looking at a process of three to five years as a guiding tool to help develop durable solutions for communities, for IDPs and for returnees,” Michael said.
He expressed appreciation for the cooperation between IOM and the state government in preparing the initiative.
“We’re very grateful to be able to work so closely with the governor and with the government here to support this initiative,” he said.
Michael added that the official launch was expected to take place in the coming weeks.
The roadmap will be implemented over four years, with periodic reviews to assess progress. It is intended to support coordinated efforts among government institutions, humanitarian partners and affected communities to identify and address obstacles to durable solutions.
The initiative comes amid continued efforts to support displaced people, returnees and host communities in finding sustainable solutions to displacement across Central Equatoria State.
