The European Commission said on Friday that Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš remains in a potential conflict of interest over EU agricultural and cohesion funds. It said the trust into which he transferred his Agrofert business does not adequately address the issue.
Babiš transferred Agrofert to the RSVP Trust in February. The Commission says the arrangement is insufficient, partly because his descendants are potential beneficiaries.
The statement reiterates the Commission’s position from September. It follows claims by Transparency International that the Commission considers the conflict direct rather than potential. Babiš has rejected the allegations, calling them nonsense.
